Journalist Mr. Vu Minh Viet, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, delivered the closing speech at the Workshop on Connecting, Training, and Sharing Experiences of ASEAN Eco-Schools.
Through the workshop, schools in Western, especially Can Tho City, were guided on applying the “ASEAN Eco-School” criteria to teaching, management, and extracurricular activities. In particular, experts and representatives from several schools discussed and exchanged ideas on creating plastic-free schools, developing green, safe, and sustainable schools, and adapting to climate change, aiming to provide the best learning, living, and recreational environment for students.
Journalist Mr. Vu Minh Viet, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, affirmed that the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2025 is an opportunity for stakeholders to connect and inspire green awareness and actions among students, the future environmental ambassadors. Starting with small actions such as waste sorting, collecting plastic waste, and planting more trees to promote environmental protection and climate change adaptation, as well as sustainable development, are seeds sown for Vietnam’s green future.
The workshop provided practical guidance and an implementation roadmap for the ASEAN Eco-School criteria, representing a concrete action by the Awards Organizing Committee in collaboration with the Departments of Education and Training, as well as primary, secondary, and high schools across the country.
After the Workshop, the Organizing Committee hopes that the Departments of Education and Training, schools, and teachers will continue to participate, either in person or online, in upcoming Award events in Hue and Hanoi.
At the same time, the Organizing Committee encourages schools to continue registering for the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2025. The Agriculture and Environment News is ready to answer all questions, difficulties, and problems of schools during the registration process to address any questions, difficulties, or challenges schools may encounter during the registration process to participate in the Award.
"When we join hands, take action, and especially receive strong participation from schools and students across the country, the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2025 will be successfully implemented, spreading widely and becoming a practical, sustainable movement that actively contributes to building a bright, green, clean, and beautiful homeland and nation,” journalist Mr. Vu Minh Viet expressed.
Delegates attending the workshop shared opinions and learned information related to the criteria for establishing an eco-school.
On the same afternoon, schools will take a field trip to Viet My High School (Hung Phu Ward, Can Tho City) - the school that won the first prize of ASEAN Ecological School Vietnam in 2024. Students of the Viet My High School not only learn how to protect the environment through books but also participate actively in extracurricular activities, including STEM clubs, creating recycled products from fruit peels, organizing Environment Week, and sorting waste directly in the classroom.
After Can Tho City, the Organizing Committee will hold a workshop on “Connecting, Training, and Sharing Experiences on ASEAN Eco-Schools – Plastic Waste Free Schools” in Hue City this October.
